What is Pilates?
Pilates is everywhere right now, on social media, in fitness studios, and in everyday conversations. Yet, despite its popularity, I still get asked: what exactly is Pilates? Do I need to be flexible? What does it really do?
Pilates is a mind - body practise that strengthens you from the inside out. It’s slower, more controlled and built around breath, helping you activate muscles that are often missed in more traditional workouts.
At its core, Pilates focuses on alignment, control, and muscle engagement. A big part of that is working through the pelvic floor and the deeper layers of the core (like the TVA), the muscles that support your spine, your hips and keep everything stable.
While workouts like weightlifting or cardio focus on bigger muscle groups, Pilates works differently. It targets the smaller, stabilising muscles, which improve posture, support movement, and help prevent injury.
What you’ll feel
A stronger, longer, more balanced body that moves with greater ease in everyday life.
This is how I teach Pilates in my sessions; slow, controlled movements, done correctly with awareness.
If you’re looking to feel stronger, sit and stand taller and move with more confidence, you can join one of my classes or book a 1:1 session.
